Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga has informed that roads constructed in the State are based on needs assessment. He said this at the interministerial Press briefing held at the State Government House on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
The Commissioner gave the number of road projects construction by the Umo Eno's administration as 234, noting that the projects had improved connectivity and eased movement across communities by providing alternative routes for commuters.
According to him, the road construction programme has also opened up previously underserved rural areas to greater economic activity, enabling residents to move goods and services more easily and connecting rural communities to urban centres.
Ibanga further said the government’s infrastructure programme had created employment opportunities for people operating in the informal sector, particularly those engaged at construction sites.
The Commissioner stressed that the roads being constructed by the administration were selected through needs assessment, rather than being based on the government’s preference or political considerations.
Ibanga who informed that the State Government has invested a total of N879.22 billion in various projects across the State, explained that N131.71 billion was expended on inherited projects, N131.87 billion on emergency projects, while N615.65 billion was committed to projects under the FGBC category.
He also assured contractors working with the state government that the administration does not owe any contractor whose Interim Payment Certificate (IPC) have been duly processed, stressing that the government remains committed to meeting its financial obligations to contractors.
