The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, has pledged its partnership and support for the Federal College of Education, Ididep, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, to promote the institution’s development and amplify its achievements and concerns.

The Chairman of the Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, gave the assurance on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, when he led the State Working Committee on a courtesy visit to the Provost, Dr. Wilson Udofia, at the institution.

John said the visit was aimed at establishing an enduring relationship between the Union and the College, stressing that the partnership would be mutually beneficial and contribute to the growth of the institution.

He commended the Provost for assembling a professional Media Unit, whose members, he observed, were committed to their responsibilities, but called for adequate funding and empowerment to enhance their performance. “Cash, money and finance are needed to bring goodwill as well as excellent publicity of your activities,” he stressed, urging the management to invest in effective communication to showcase the College’s accomplishments.

The NUJ chairman further advised the Provost not to be distracted by internal or external challenges but to remain focused on building the institution and leaving behind a legacy of excellence. He assured the management of the Union’s readiness to intervene with the Federal Government where necessary to draw attention to the College’s needs, while observing that the institution had recorded remarkable progress since Udofia assumed office.

Responding, Udofia expressed appreciation for the Union’s visit and its offer of partnership, noting that the institution could not achieve its objectives in isolation. “We cannot do it alone, so I’m excited and grateful about this visit and partnership, knowing that the NUJ will help in making our concerns known,” he said.

The Provost also acknowledged former Senator Ita Enang for facilitating the establishment of the College, describing it as an important platform that provides opportunities for teachers to teach and students to learn.

Highlighting the institution’s infrastructural strides, Udofia disclosed that the College had put in place modern learning facilities, with additional projects underway. He said a 500-capacity, solar-powered TETFund lecture hall, equipped with modern facilities and ramps for persons with disabilities, was nearing completion and scheduled for commissioning in November 2026.

He also revealed that plans were underway to introduce six additional departments ahead of the institution’s accreditation exercise, expected within the next 12 months.

On student welfare and academic development, the Provost disclosed that admission into the 2026/2027 academic session was ongoing, adding that the College had student hostel accommodation provided by Enang, with a larger facility expected through the intervention of the Ibiono Ibom Local Government Chairman, Hon. Asuakak Umoh.

He also celebrated the academic performance of the students, citing Miracle Paulinus of the English Language/French Department, who won the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) South-South Zonal Scholarship, as evidence of the institution’s academic promise.

Udofia further explained that prospective students could gain admission without sitting for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination, provided they possessed four credits in WAEC, NECO or GCE. He put the tuition fee at ₦39,500 per session for non-science courses and ₦42,000 for science and vocational programmes, describing the College as an accessible option for aspiring educators.

The NUJ delegation subsequently embarked on a guided tour of facilities within the campus, during which the management showcased ongoing developments and learning infrastructure, reinforcing the prospects for a productive partnership between the institution and the media community.
