The Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS) has directed all unlicensed operators of online betting, pools and other related gaming activities across the state to immediately stop their operations. The directive was contained in a public announcement signed by the Executive Chairman of AKIRS, Sir Okon Okon.
The Service also directed persons and businesses operating without proper registration to report to the Pools and Betting Department at Room 494, Block 9, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo, to complete their registration and obtain the necessary licences and approvals. According to the announcement, affected operators are expected to comply with the directive before the close of business on Friday, September 18, 2026.
AKIRS warned that continued operation without the required registration would not be tolerated, adding that violators would face appropriate penalties and enforcement measures in accordance with the extant laws of the state. The Service therefore urged all affected operators to comply promptly to avoid sanctions.
